Staff Reports
The Niagara Arts and Cultural Center will hold a Native American art exhibition in both of its art galleries this month. The main gallery on the first floor will host an exhibition of emerging Native American artists from the Western New York and Southern Ontario regions featuring Guy Davis, Toni Scott, Delbert Jonathan, Marcie Kane and Erwin Printup, Jr. The Garden Gallery on the second floor will showcase the many talents of Earl Dionne, who is a well-established Native American artist whose specialty is a wood burning art form known as fireart.
Dionne has been creating fireart for over 20 years and this year won second place for Overall Art at the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis. His artwork is featured at Woodland Visions which is dedicated towards the teaching and sharing of fire art as an ancient process of creativity, healing and personal growth. The Mohawk tradition strengthens his program’s ability to help clients find their “orenda” or personal power. His commitment is to create a burning art experience, which enriches the mind, body and spirit.
The exhibitions in both galleries are opening on Aug. 28 and will be on display until Oct. 25. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. with complimentary refreshments. The hours of the exhibitions at the NACC are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Please come to the NACC offices on the second floor if the Main Gallery is not open to have a staff member open it for you.
The exhibition in the main gallery is still accepting entrants for the exhibit and submissions can be entered by contacting Bob Drozdowski at 282-7530 or bob@thenacc.org and Joy Faba at 425-0351 or joy.faba@gmail.com.
