Native SC Tribe Donates to American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Efforts

The Inland Empire Chapter of the American Red Cross announced today that the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians has donated $250,000 to the American Red Cross' national fundraising campaign to raise $100 million to fill the Disaster Relief Fund depleted after an active year of disasters. Chairman James Ramos and representatives from the San Manuel Tribal government presented the gift to local American Red Cross Inland Empire Chapter Chief Operating Officer Yevette Ramos.
"It is the Tribe's hope that these funds will assist the American Red Cross bring comfort and relief to the thousands of people devastated by the recent hurricanes," said James Ramos, Chairman, San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, "In the wake of disasters, such as those we have seen this year, it is important to remember that we must all come together as one great community and lend a hand where we can."
"This hurricane season has been very tough for millions of people throughout the Gulf Coast. Even as media attention moves on, the devastation remains, as does the need for food, shelter and other critical services," said Yevette Ramos. "We are thankful that the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians recognized these needs and is helping the Red Cross meet them."
As part of the campaign to support the National Disaster Relief Fund, the Inland Empire Chapter and 37 additional chapters across the state are working to raise $8.6 million of the $100 million goal.
"It is only through the generosity of our friends and neighbors like our corporate partners who have given so generously to the National Disaster Relief Fund that Red Cross chapters across California have been able to reach the $3 million mark in less than a month," said Yevette Ramos.
The Disaster Relief Fund allows the Red Cross to provide emergency assistance to help victims of disasters by meeting their immediate needs with food, shelter, counseling and other critical services. The Red Cross responds to 70,000 disasters each year - the majority of them "silent" disasters never making the news. After tragedy strikes, the Red Cross relies on this fund to mobilize volunteers and resources to help communities throughout the United States.
